ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN...can be AVOIDED

NewyddionThis has just arrived, and is yet another example of how the built environment in Morfa Nefyn is being vandalised. Concerns have been raised by people all along Llyn about the size and nature of the luxury holiday flats development on the Linksway site, a well known landmark. It now appears as though another equally well known and much loved landmark, the Bay Tree in Morfa is now also under threat.

the bay tree

This has been sent to us by concerned residents in Morfa- The Bay Tree restaurant, Morfa Nefyn, designed/constructed in 1935, with distictive character including its single-storey appearance in conjunction with an interesting flat roof and internally positioned chimney layout ... is one of the very few remaining buildings of any historic interest in the villiage of Morfa Nefyn. The Bay Tree has similar design characteristics as The Moranedd cafe, Criccieth (1948) [now a Grade II listed building] and, although that 'flat roofed cafe' was designed by Clough William-Ellis, in my opinion 'our local landmark building' The Bay Tree ... deserves similar special consideration. Please address your questions to: Gwynedd Council c/o AledDavies@gwynedd.gov.uk or
GruffyddWynMorris@gwynedd.gov.uk

There is apparently a procedure of a Committee decision when 3 or more Residents/Laypersons raise questions/objections in relation to a planning application and yet when an Expert such as Gareth Thomas Wynne [of Gwynedd Council road safety] recommends refusal of an application on grounds including the possibility of potential fatalities ... a Committee decision has been circumvented.

Extraordinarily and irrespective of the absence of any application for a change of use from 'commercial' to 'residential' ... The decision as to the outcome of a planning application to demolish The Bay Tree restaurant of Morfa Nefyn [designed/built in 1935] and replace with housing was apparently deputised to an individual Planning Officer in early JUL.2005 [instead of the normal 'decision by Committee' method] ...

On MON.18.JUL.2005 Gareth Thomas Wynne [an Expert on road safety who had visited the site] recommended refusal of the application.

On THU.03.NOV.2005 Gwynedd Council's planning department alleged that the plans to demolish The Bay Tree restaurant and replace with housing had been approved on WED.02.NOV.2005 and it was too late to object.

Gwynedd Council are apparently now allowing a single planning Officer [i.e. a non-Expert in road safety] to over-rule their own road safety Expert ... and 'the Commitee decision' that most Residents should expect is being wilfully circumvented in the rush to destroy yet another historical local landmark [one of the few remaining in the villiage of Morfa Nefyn] for yet another questionable housing development, this time at the potential expense of People's lives.
